Holly Nicholson Photography bio picture
  • Hi there!

    I know how much you have been looking forward to your senior portraits. You want to look your absolute best because your senior portraits have to be perfect. They have to tell the story of who you are at this monumental time in your life. And yeah, you want your friends to be secretly jealous when you hand out your wallets. It’s how you’ll be remembered for years to come. It’s kind of a big deal! We include professional hair and makeup with ALL sessions to make sure that you are pampered on your day. To me, this is more than just a senior portrait. It’s an experience that I hope you’ll never forget, an experience that will give you a boost of confidence and help you remember how beautiful you are!

HNP’s Spring Fashion Shoot { Escanaba, MI Senior Photographer }

Every now and then I get the itch to do a just-for-fun shoot. I just love pulling outfits together from my massive collection of vintage clothing and accessories! The personal work that I do allows me to try out crazy fashion inspired ideas and call alllllll the shots! It was a gorgeous day last week, and I couldn’t stand to stay inside and edit. So I contacted Jen last minute, knowing she’d be up for it! I’ve known Jen since I can remember – she’s the baby sister of one of my childhood friends, Jess! Jen is interested in modeling, and she was so much fun to work with! This girl really knows how to pose – see for yourself!

  • Model: Jennifer Gasso
  • Makeup: Jennifer Gasso
  • Hair, Wardrobe Styling, Photography & Post Processing: Holly Nicholson

For the first outfit, I wanted something really simple and elegant to show of Jen’s gorgeous features. I chose an old velvet strapless ball gown that I found in my grandma’s basement. For a touch of glamour, I added HUGE chandelier earrings from Forever21. The earrings are way too heavy to wear out, so I’ve been saving them for a shoot just like this!

The next look I pulled together was little house on the prairie inspired – a soft, feminine look with a bold pop of red to spice up the pale blue Gunne Sax dress! Plus, some oversized fake glasses I’ve had since high school – just because she’s cute enough to pull them off!

The last look was definitely my favorite! I have been dreaming up a Gaga themed shoot for awhile, so this was way fun. It ended up being a little more Ke$ha that Gaga, but I’m really thrilled with the look either way!:)The rad sequin bodysuit is a Vinnie’s find, as well as the belt. I love ripped up nylons and her “I don’t give a hoot” attitude – she rocked the rebel look!

What do you think – does this girl have what it takes, or what?! Leave some love for Jen in the comments, or feel free to share via Facebook!

Holly Nicholson Photography’s New Logo { Escanaba, MI Senior Photography }

Notice anything different around here? HNP has a brand spanking new…brand! This is something that has been in the works for quite some time now. The endlessly talented Renee at Ribbons Of Red is the mastermind behind the new logo. It’s exactly what I wanted for my business, and Renee really captured the essence of HNP in her design. The new bio photo was taken by the lovely Amanda at Amanda Jane Photography. Amanda specializes in babies and weddings, and is located in Escanaba, MI. So here she is, my super rad new logo! What do you think?

New Website for HNP ! { Escanaba, MI Senior Photographer }

So it’s finally here! The brand new website! I’ve been working on it for a few weeks now – and although it’s still a work in progress, it’s finally live. I had a different website at the same url last year – but I wasn’t proud of it, so I took it down altogether and used facebook. http://www.hollynicholsonphotography.com is back and here to stay. Check out the intro – some of my favorite shots of my seniors!:)

In other news, HNP will soon be leaving the UP for a couple of weeks to attend a photography convention in Las Vegas. I have been looking forward to WPPI for a long time, and I am so excited! I’m meeting my cousin Tina and her family in Vegas. Tina has a photography business in California, Kickapix Photography – her baby portraits are the cutest! After the convention, I’ll be heading to California for a few days to stay with her family. I’ve never been to Vegas OR California, so it’s going to be quite the experience! I’ll try to keep in touch via Facebook while I’m gone, but it will be a very busy 2 weeks. If any photographers would like to meet up in Vegas, Facebook me! I’ll be back to the UP on March 1st, and I’ll catch up with any e-mails and requests when I return. Yay!:)

Holly Nicholson Photography is looking for juniors to model {Escanaba, MI Senior Photographer}

Hey everyone! I am super excited to announce that I am once again looking for models to represent next year’s senior class. The application can be found by clicking “info” above, or click here. Applicants from Escanaba, Gladstone, Rapid River, Big Bay, and Bark River high schools will be accepted. All other local schools will be considered. Please read below for the answers to some of the questions you may have. HNP will also be releasing senior session and package information this week – so stay tuned!

What is a Senior Model?
Holly Nicholson Photography will be choosing one current junior from each local school to represent HNP at his or her school. Each model will get TWO free photo shoots in exchange for being my little advertising machines! Their job will be to spread the word about HNP and encourage their friends to look into HNP for unique senior portraits. They’ll earn print credit for each senior they refer to HNP by handing out rep cards and showing off their senior pictures!

What’s in it for me?
Your photos will be plastered all over my Facebook, website, and blog. You’ll be famous!
FREE modeling session in March! I’ve got some really fun themes in mind for the Class of 2012, and I can’t wait to bring those ideas to life with my models!
FREE two hour senior session in June, with unlimited outfits!
FREE professional makeup for your modeling session.
Bragging rights! HNP senior models are my VIPs!
50 rep cards to hand out to other seniors. The rep cards feature your photos and a coupon for your friends that they can use for their HNP photo shoot.
For each senior you refer to HNP, you’ll get $25 to spend on prints and products.
BONUS: The top model (whoever brings in the most seniors for HNP) gets an additional photo shoot with your best friends at the end of your senior year.

If I am chosen, what are the rules of the Modeling Program?
You (and your parents) must sign a model release that allows me to use your photos for advertising and promotions. That means that you must have your parents’ permission to apply for and participate in the program.
This one is a no-brainer, but you must agree to represent and promote only HNP for the duration of your senior year, and you may not be photographed by any other photographer. (Exception: required team sports photos)
If you’re chosen as a model, you’ll be required to pay a deposit of $100 (due before your modeling photo shoot). If you refer four seniors to HNP, that deposit magically turns into a print credit, to be added to the print credit you will earn with each and every referral!
Once you are provided with your Facebook images, you must agree to keep your Facebook profile picture set to one of your HNP images through October 31 of your senior year.
You will be given 50 rep cards featuring your images which you will be asked to hand out to your classmates.

Yep, that’s basically all there is to it! It’s a pretty easy job!

Okay, I want in! How do I apply?
All you have to do is fill out the application online:
I will be accepting models February 5th through February 20th. The chosen models will be notified by March 6th! If you are not chosen as a model, there’s a little bonus involved just for taking the time to fill out the application, so it’s definitely worth your time to apply. There is no obligation just for applying.

What are you looking for when you choose your model representatives?
I’m looking for juniors who truly value my unique style of photography. You’ve got to be excited to represent HNP! My ideal model will be a one of a kind individual whose portraits are an awesome addition to my portfolio. Sure, it helps if you are comfortable in front of the camera and have a great sense of style – but it’s even more important that you are enthusiastic about working for HNP. You’ve got to be outgoing, friendly, honest, and reliable. You don’t have to be model size to be chosen as one of my models, you just have to be comfortable in your own skin! Your main job will be to show off your photos any chance you get – if you can do that, you can be a model!

Choosing models is no easy task for me – I literally want to choose EVERYONE! That’s coming from the same part of my brain that wants to be friends with everyone.:)I invest a lot of time and money in my model representatives, so I’m essentially looking for the senior who I think will help me bring in the most new clients. If you are not chosen to represent HNP as a model, please do not take it personally. You are still awesome, and I can guarantee that I still want to be your friend! Thank you SO much for your interest in HNP!

Parents and students, feel free to click “contact me” up there if you have any questions!

A big warm and fuzzy shout out to the current HNP models of the Class of ’11. Jaena, Erin, Hillary, Kaylee, Lauren, and Holly – it has been nothing short of wonderful getting to know all of you amazing young women! Thank you for being you!
