Tips for your photo shoot

WARDROBE TIPS
Most girls say that choosing their outfits was the most difficult part of their senior photos! Check out my tips for planning your wardrobe. I’ll ask you to send me outfit pics a few days before your session. I love to plan ahead and make sure the location will complement your wardrobe choices.

*The camera loves layers and texture.

*Denim is always a good choice.

*Neutral colors allow your features to take center stage.

*Shoes don’t show in every photo, but be sure to plan a coordinating pair for each outfit so we can take some full length photos also.

*Think about accessories for each outfit.

*Don’t be afraid to try a new style that you wouldn’t normally wear – as long as you love it!

*Avoid bright/neon colors and busy patterns, as they can be distracting.

*Dresses always look great in photos! Find a cut that flatters your body type. I might make you twirl!

*A chunky or cozy sweater works for any season. Pick a color that enhances your eyes and skin tone. An oversized sweater looks absolutely adorable pulled off one shoulder and paired with cutoffs.

*It’s so important to wear the right undergarments! Some sheer or light colored dresses require nude underwear. Bra straps should not show unless a bralette is part of your outfit.

*White and pastel colors can wash out some skin tones.

*If you’re self conscious about your arms, try longer sleeves, bring a denim jacket, or throw on a cardigan.

*Variety is key! All dresses or all jeans can be boring. Think variety in the colors you choose also.

*Props are fun too – a vintage camera, your musical instrument, or a family quilt.

*Above all else, wear what makes you feel like a million bucks. It’s all about feeling confident in your own skin.

THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PHOTO SHOOT
*Double check your appointment times, and don’t forget that all times are in the Eastern time zone!
*Go over your outfits one last time. Is everything clean and wrinkle free? Any pet hair that needs to be lint rolled?
*Hang each outfit on its own hanger. Attach a bag to the neck of the hanger containing all accessories for that outfit. This really helps on-location clothing changes go smoothly!
*Pack the car and make sure you didn’t forget anything!
*Get plenty of rest!

ON THE DAY OF YOUR PHOTO SHOOT
*Unless we’ve made other arrangements, we’ll be meeting at Salon West & Spa (1615 Ludington Street Escanaba)
*Please arrive ten minutes early for your hair and makeup appointment. I usually plan the times close to sunset to get the ideal light, so if you’re late we may not have enough time to complete the shoot. I’ll meet you at the salon toward the end of your appointment so we’ll have some time to chat before your photo shoot begins!
*Bring lip gloss or color for touchups. I really love a bold lip for the last outfit! You may also want to bring your own mascara if you really want to lay it on thick.
*Don’t forget to eat! You’ll need the energy – photo shoots are hard work!
